GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball dropped both games in their series against Phoenix College over the weekend. With the two losses, the Gauchos now sit at 17-8 overall, 9-7 in ACCAC play.
Friday March 6th, 6-5 loss
The Gauchos allowed Phoenix College to score two runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, leading to a 6-5 loss. Nomar Topete and Diego Chavez each had 2 hits on the day and both had a run batted in. Logan Leavitt, Hayden Smith and Everrett Sanderson had the remaining 3 hits for the Gauchos. Leavitt also had an RBI in the contest. The Gauchos had 7 hits in 32 at-bats, and left 12 men on base.
Brady Anderson threw 5 innings for Glendale, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4 of the 23 batters he faced. Diego Lovesy took the loss for the Gauchos, his second of the season. The Gauchos pitching staff gave up 6 runs (4 earned) on 12 hits and struck out 7 batters while giving up 6 walks.
Saturday March 7th, 9-4 loss
Phoenix College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top half of the 1st inning and never looked back, defeating the Gauchos 9-4. Cayden Cooper was 3-for-5 on the day and scored a run for the Gauchos, with Brock Berlan, Josue Malave, and Hayden Smith all going 2-for-5 at the plate and combined for 2 runs batted in. The Gauchos had 10 hits in 38 at-bats and left 29 men on base.
Aydin Chippindall took the loss for the Gauchos, second of the season. He threw five innings, giving up 9 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits and striking out 5 batters. Brayden Bullard pitched 4 innings in relief only allowing one hit and striking out 4 of the 13 batters he faced.
The Gauchos will take a break from league play as they host Monroe Community College this Sunday and Monday, March 8th and 9th. Sunday will be a doubleheader with first pitch for game 1 being at 12 P.M. and the second game beginning at 2 P.M. Monday's game will begin at 2 P.M. All games will be played at Glendale.
