Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 6 Phoenix College

PHOENIX – Though Damaris Samora was able to score a late goal, the Glendale Community College women's soccer team lost a 5-1 decision to No. 6-ranked Phoenix College on Saturday evening.

Phoenix took control of the match early and scored all of its goals in the first hour of the match. The Bears opened the scoring in the 12th minute and added a second in the 17th minute. Ahead of halftime, Phoenix notched another goal in the 33rd minute to take a 3-0 lead at the break.

Two goals in a three-minute span of the second half put the match to bed. Phoenix received goals in the 55th and 58th minutes to make it 5-0. In the late stages, Samora curled a shot in over the wall and into the side netting to put the Gauchos on the board.

Mayra Kruk and McKenna Jackson split time in goal on the night, with Kruk making four first-half saves and Jackson adding five in the second half.

Now 5-6-2 on the season, Glendale has everything to play for on Monday evening as it returns home to host Mesa Community College at 4:45 p.m. in a rescheduled match from two weeks ago. The Gauchos are knotted with Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the conference standings with 17 points apiece and the two sides played to two draws last week. If either team posts a better result than the other on Monday, that side will advance to the ACCAC semifinals later in the week. If the teams match their results on Monday, then a deciding match between the two programs will be scheduled prior to the conference tournament.
