Track Starts Strong At Paradise Valley Meet

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — The Glendale Community College men's track and field teams delivered a standout performance last Saturday, January 24th, at the Paradise Valley Track & Field Complex, closing out the meet with a new school record, three national qualifying marks, multiple national rankings, and a long list of top‑five finishes.

3 different Gauchos broke the seven-second barrier in the men's 60 meter sprint. Jacoby Lamar (6.807) and Tyreeq Jones (6.089) each finished just under 6.81 seconds, with Jhaylin Palmer finishing fifth at 6.93, a personal best. Thrower Noah Berzina claimed first place after his 16.29 meter throw jumped him to 6th nationally amongst NJCAA division 1 programs. Cole Carpenter (21.36 seconds) and Konrad Clark (21.70 seconds) finished in first and second place in the 200 meters, a field that consisted of over 90 athletes. Hurdlers Ricky Torres, Aejaie Horbert and Connor Sanchez finished 4th, 6th, and 8th respectively in their events.

Program records were broken on Saturday after Matthew Baskin, Cole Carpenter, Konrad Clark, and Tyreeq Jones posted a 3:09.95 time in the 4x400 meter event. The performance on Saturday ranks the group 2nd in the nation amongst NJCAA division 1 programs. The record was previously held by last year's group of Kyler McQueen, Syncere Washington, as well as Carpenter and Clark with a time of 3:12.92. That group went on to receive NJCAA D1 Indoor All-American honors.

Glendale Community College men's track and field will return to action on January 31st at the Central Arizona College Indoor Invitational in Coolidge, Arizona.
