PHOENIX - Glendale Community College men's basketball came up just short in their efforts against South Mountain Community College this past Saturday, falling to the Cougars 82-78. The Gauchos now move to 14-5 overall, 5-3 in conference play, and currently sit in 3rd place in the ACCAC.
Kenny White led all scorers for the contest, finishing with 36 points on 13-of-20 from the field, and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. White, a sophomore from St. Mary's high school, also contributed 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Stephan Miller (Liberty) had his tenth straight game scoring in double figures and sixth game with a double-double. Miller finished with 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds. The Gauchos shot 49.1% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc and had 15 assists on 28 made field goals. Glendale was outrebounded by South Mountain 41-33 and had 18 turnovers for the contest. The Cougars shot 46.2% for the game, outscored the Gauchos 44-32 in the paint, and had 15 offensive rebounds which led to 17 second chance points.
Glendale Community College men's basketball returns for one game this week, a road contest against Mesa Community College on Saturday, January 24th. In the first matchup, the Gauchos defeated the Thunderbirds, 79-73. Mesa currently sits at 9-6 overall, 3-4 in ACCAC play. The Thunderbirds are currently tied for 4th place in the conference standings. Tip-off for Saturday's contest is scheduled for 4 P.M.
