Both the Women and Men’s Track&Field teams at GCC opened up their 2022 Outdoor campaign at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, AZ at the home of the PAC12 Arizona Wildcats. The Gauchos had several Personal Bests and one NJCAA National Qualifier, allowing for a very successful spring/break opener.
Personal-Bests
Women
•Kjersti Jenks - Set a new personal best (PB) in the 1500m with a time of 6:35.09
•Nevaeh Cole - 100m with a time of 12.79
•Samantha Eagan - 200m with a time of 27.74
•Aaliyah Price - 200m with a time of 30.27
Men
•Payton Lane - Set 2 new personal best throws in both the Hammer 39.69m (130’2”ft) and Disc 38.42m (126’ft)
•Jalan McKeaver - 200m with a time of 22.15w
•Owen Chugg - 5k with a time of 17:30.02
•Travon “TJ” Johns - 110mh with a time of 16.03
•David Valdez - 6.16m (20’2 1/2”), 200m in 23.65 and 100m time of 11.68
•Grace Sangwa - Ran to a Personal Best 200m time of 23.14, 13.44 44’1 1/4” in the Triple Jump and also Long Jumped 6.66m (21’10 1/4”)
Men's 4x100m Relay
•Jalan McKeaver, Eysias Banks, Chris Hayden and Devonté Rushdan ran a time of 43.78.
Gaucho Debut
•Sarae Morales - came to play and ran a Personal Best time in the 200m of 29.55 while also posting a seasons best of 1:05.39
•Devin Greene - topped his Personal Best marks in both the long jump 6.89m and triple jump 13.91m in his first competition Outdoors in Red and Black for the Gauchos! Since, transferring from OCC in California.
NJCAA Outdoor National Qualifier
•Eysias Banks - Congratulations on Qualifying for the NJCAA Outdoor Track&Field Nationals in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 54.69. This time granted Eysias with a 4th place Finish overall at the W.W. Classic.
Welcome
*In her first competition in nearly three years, 1st year sprinter Alexis Inocencio ran competitively and improved on her personal best mark ever in the women’s 200m.
Next Up
The Gauchos next Meet is broken into two days at Paridise Valley Community College. The Cody McBride Distance in the Dark Meet first day is this Thursday, March 24th starting with Distance races under the lights at Mesa Community College. Then, returning with more action on Saturday, March 26th with Speed, Jumps and Throws at Paridise Valley Community College! Making for a very eventful week of Track and Field competition.
